Britons can save £120 by bartering on meals and souvenirs

Britons can save £120 by bartering on meals and souvenirs on holiday
(with Belfast coming out on top and Brighton shoppers the worst)

Spain is listed as the top country for bartering, with Britons more likely to get a discount on their goods
The Iberian peninsula surprisingly beat Turkey for its acceptance of haggling, which took second place, followed by Greece

Egypt and Portugal also made it into the top five destinations for negotiating a bargain
Psychologist Dr Sandi Mann of the University of Central Lancashire explains: 'Many 'wannabe hagglers' are still put off by the traditionally British attitude that talking about money is rude
'Negotiating money off in any situation begins with a state of mine - and if you've had success on holiday, it gives you the confidence to bring those skills back with you

The most resistant are holidaymakers in the South East. Southampton and Brighton shoppers are least likely to haggle
Holiday hagglers admit to bartering most often when they feel overcharged by inflated tourist prices, according to a new study
And one in three Brit travelers reckon they can save up to 28 per cent off the asking price

Stop your husband moaning in 15 minutes

Yes: you can get ready in 15 minutes
Stop your husband moaning with these new high-speed home
treatments

Some women look effortlessly groomed — from the tops of their salon-dried heads to the tips of their pedicured toes — every minute of the day
The rest of us simply don’t have the time. But what if you could shave hours from your grooming regime? That’s the promise of a new range of corner- cutting products on the market. Quick as a flash, I try them out
BLOW-DRY IN 2 MINUTES
KMS California Freeshape Quick Blow Dry spray, £9.99, gorgeousshop.co.uk
THE CLAIM: ‘Speeds up drying time by up to 50 per cent. Many products claim to “change your life”, here’s one that actually might!

THE TEST: Find me a woman who enjoys drying her hair and I’ll show you one whose bingo wings don’t flap when using a hairdryer and paddle brush
After drying my hair five times a week for 20 years, I’ve managed to whittle down my drying time to four minutes. That’s with my trusty Boots hairdryer, bought more than ten years ago, and a volumising spray to thicken my thin locks

This time, I wash my hair then spray on this new product, which contains silicone to detangle, and oils to help excess water evaporate. It smells delicious and detangles my hair almost immediately. In just two minutes, two seconds, it’s bone dry, perfectly smooth and has the swishy, expensive feel of a salon blow-dry

Why £100 toothpaste could make your teeth WORSE

Why £100 toothpaste could make your teeth WORSE
A top dentist's brutal verdict on new 'super toothpastes'

Most of us are happy with a toothpaste that costs a couple of pounds. But a new generation of super-toothpastes costing up to £100 a tube has emerged — with extravagant promises such as rejuvenating gums and regenerating enamel

So, is it worth splashing out? Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, who leads an expert panel of dentists that examines manufacturers’ claims to ensure they are clinically proven, gives his verdict

BREATH FRESHENER
Dr Katz California Breath Plus, £8.95
Part of a range by Dr Harold Katz, dubbed Hollywood’s ‘Bad Breath Guru’. Is claimed to help with the most stubborn bad breath and fight cavities

TASTE TEST: This is a dense, clear gel. There is none of the familiar foaming action of a conventional toothpaste. It glides over the teeth as you brush. It doesn’t have a bad after-taste, but nor do you get a minty-fresh mouth feel
DR CARTER’S VERDICT: ‘The toothpaste contains all of the usual ingredients: water, abrasive silica, which is very

finequartz that aids the cleaning process, and flavouring
‘The only extras are xylitol — a sweetener that inhibits the growth of bacteria, which is also found in a lot

of supermarket own-brand toothpastes — and flavourings, such as peppermint oil, but nothing to justify the price
‘The claims being made are excessive. It says it gets rid of and prevents bad breath — but there is nothing I can see in there that indicates that is going to be the case
‘This is an under-formulated and over-sold product

Manchester United are prepared to commit as much as £100million to their pursuit of Angel di Maria as the ailing Barclays Premier League club try to beef up Louis van Gaal’s squad before the end of the summer transfer window
United manager Van Gaal is desperate for world- class additions and has told chief executive Ed Woodward to do all he can to bring winger Di Maria to the club from Real Madrid
It is understood United have told the Argentine that, with performance-based incentives, they will pay him around £200,000 a week. Over a five-year deal that would take United’s investment to £100m when a transfer fee of around £50m is included
